At the heart of it is a battery, not just a straight AC to DC conversion. Incoming AC power gets converted to DC and stored in the battery, which then feeds your machine. That buffer matters: wall power carries noise and voltage ripple, especially in older buildings or shared circuits. Pulling power from a stored, regulated battery instead of straight off the conversion gives you a cleaner, steadier hit with none of that electrical noise reaching your machine.
